These are some of the best practices I like to use when I practice and manage design.

Understand the Problem

Agree on the Solution

Implement & Test

Design Practice

To drive the design process forward it is important to collaborate with the team and stakeholders on the following points:

  1. Why
Discover & Define the problem that we want to solve. Often research is needed to uncover underlying factors that contribute to the problem.

  2. How
Explore potential solutions. I always work with interactive prototypes that you can test & validate.

  3. What
Craft the UI using a Design System and specify everything for implementation. Now learn how the design is performing and iterate if needed.

.

The Triple Diamond process describes how customer-centric innovation takes place.
It illustrates the need for divergent and convergent thinking at different stages of the design process.

Design Management

Good design management is a healthy mix of Getting things done & Having fun along the way. This results in most through/output and an engaged team.

My Day-to-day focus when managing & coaching designers:

  • Current projects and planning
Making sure we are on track

  • Design (and research) skills
    Quality of the work (Craft)

  • Soft skills
How the work is presented & communicated

  • Career growth
    Making sure people are progressing

  • Wellbeing
All of the above are affected by how a designer is feeling

Things will always change.

As a designer you need to be comfortable with that.
